Sam has devoted the past 15 years to understanding dogs — not only through books and certifications, but through real-life experience in forests, open fields, and natural environments where instinct, movement, and communication are authentic and unfiltered.
He has walked and managed packs of up to 35 off-leash dogs daily in diverse natural settings. This hands-on work has given him deep insight into canine behaviour, group dynamics, decision-making, and emotional regulation.
Sam has studied the behaviour of wildlife, birds, and domestic animals, spending thousands of hours observing how groups naturally interact — how they lead, follow, teach, correct, regulate themselves, and live together.
And somewhere between the trails, the silence of nature, and the rhythm of paws moving in harmony, he realized something essential:
Dogs are not just animals we train.

In 2012, Sam founded Canivie, a local off-leash dog walking company on the South Shore of Montreal. Through Canivie, he developed a unique business model centred on large-scale, off-leash group walks in vast, enriching natural environments, safely managing packs of dogs of all sizes, breeds, and temperaments.
This experience allowed him to observe canine behaviour in its most authentic form — movement, socialization, communication, impulse control, and real-life decision-making.
Over the years, one pattern appeared consistently:
Many behaviour problems can be prevented long before they emerge, simply through better set-ups, clearer foundations, and environments adapted to the dog’s needs.
This realization led him to create Samay Sam’s Academy — a space dedicated to sharing this approach beyond the field. Through accessible online courses, practical resources, and mindful education, he helps dog guardians build safety, trust, and real-life freedom with their dogs — positively, through understanding, not force.
At Samay Sam, our mission is to help humans and dogs truly understand each other before frustration, fear, or conflict develops.
We believe most challenges can be prevented when dogs are guided with prevention, socialization, and clear communication from the start.
Through education grounded in real-life experience and canine behaviour science, we aim to create safer choices, deeper trust, and lasting freedom — allowing humans and dogs to move through life together with confidence and calm, through understanding, not force.

Charline shapes the brand’s vision, digital ecosystem, and learning experience — translating Sam’s field expertise into clear, accessible, and supportive online education.
With a background in creative direction, strategy, and digital systems, she ensures that every course, resource, and platform feels intuitive, human, and grounded in real-life application.
Within the Samay Sam community, Charline plays a key role in welcoming members, facilitating conversations, and helping turn questions into practical next steps — making sure no one feels alone in their learning journey.
Most people start dog training when a problem appears.
But by that point, the dog is often already overwhelmed, overstimulated, or confused.
I believe real dog training begins much earlier — through:
Early socialization
Sound habituation
Preventive education
Reliable, life-saving commands (such as recall and impulse control)
Understanding a dog’s emotional world before correcting behaviour
This approach supports the development of calm, confident, and balanced dogs, and just as importantly, empowered humans who can enjoy life with their dog without constant stress or conflict.
Over the years, I developed a unique method that blends:
Science-backed canine behaviour principles
Real pack experience in natural, off-leash environments
Mindfulness and emotional regulation
Deep respect for instinct, communication, and presence
Many dog guardians seek help believing their dog has a behaviour problem.
In reality, what we most often see are set-up and environment issues, not “bad behaviour.”
We help you address challenges such as:
Recall that works indoors but fails outdoors
Dogs who struggle with impulse control or self-regulation
Overstimulation, reactivity, or constant hyper-focus
Anxiety linked to sounds, movement, or unfamiliar environments
Dogs who understand commands but can’t apply them in real-life situations
Confusion caused by inconsistent rules or unclear communication
Adjust your dog’s environment and daily routines
Improve clarity and timing before correction
Reduce emotional overload
Create conditions where calm behaviour becomes the natural choice
Build foundations that support long-term behavioural balance
When the set-up is right, behaviour improves naturally and sustainably.
